Toby has been invited to speak about music therapy in academic and community settings such as New York University’s Silver School of Social Work and Carnegie Hall’s Academy A program. Since 2013, Toby has taught Introduction to Music Therapy at New York University and from 2018-2020, internship practicum seminar for second year master’s students. Her engaging and interactive style of presentation can help non-music therapist clinicians listen to their clients in an expanded manner and to learn some basic techniques for using music in therapeutic interactions.
For teaching artists, feedback has been that hearing about how music therapists think about music, audience and musical interaction can strengthen their work and better understand students from diverse social and developmental backgrounds.
If you are interested in Toby speaking for your group or organization, please contact Toby.
“Toby’s wealth of experience as a music therapist and jazz vocalist is a great resource to our fellows. It is eye-opening for the musicians in our program to see how music can be used as a tool in a holistic way to build life skills. Toby has a talent of distilling her diverse body of work in a relevant manner for our musicians, making her workshops relatable and powerful.”

“Toby is a favorite guest presenter in the graduate level social work course I teach at NYU. Toby has a remarkable ability to put a large class at ease with her down-to-earth manner and attention to the individual interests of each student. I am always impressed and moved by the stories and case examples she uses to demonstrate the ‘magic’ of music therapy interventions. The content of her presentations are clinically grounded, practical and inspiring. The MSW students always love her!”
